Jameel Fakhri was born in Lahore, Pakistan on September 15, 1946. After completing his basic education, he embarked on a career at the National Bank of Pakistan. However, his true passion lay in the world of theater and acting. He started his theatrical journey at the WAPDA Auditorium and Alhamra Arts Council, collaborating with established TV actors and directors.

Rise to Fame:


Jameel Fakhri gained popularity through his role as police inspector Jaffer Hussain in Pakistan Television Corporation’s TV drama serial “Andhera Ujala.” The show depicted high-ranking police officer Qavi Khan and his team of lower and middle-ranking police members fighting crime in their locality, often leading to humorous situations. Fakhri’s exceptional portrayal of Jaffer Hussain captivated audiences and established him as a talented actor.

TV Dramas and Films:


Throughout his career, Jameel Fakhri showcased his versatility and talent through various TV dramas and films. He worked alongside prominent actors and directors of the time, including Irfan Khoosat, Khayyam Sarhadi, Firdous Jamal, Masood Akhtar, Kamal Ahmed Rizvi, and Nanha. Some of his notable works include “Tanay Banay,” “Waris,” “Alif Noon,” “Andhera Ujala,” and “Ek Muhabbat Sau Afsanay.” Fakhri also acted in over 50 Pakistani films, further establishing his presence in the industry.

Awards and Recognition:
Jameel Fakhri’s talent and contributions were recognized with prestigious accolades. In 2002, he received the Pride of Performance Award from the President of Pakistan, honoring his remarkable career. Additionally, he received the Nigar Award for Best Comedian in the film “Yeh Zamana Aur Hai” in 1981, further solidifying his status as a versatile actor.

Death and Legacy:
Tragically, Jameel Fakhri faced a devastating loss when his son, Ali Ayaz Fakhri, was kidnapped and killed in the United States. The news took a toll on Fakhri’s health, and he suffered a stroke on May 31, 2011. After remaining in a coma for several days, he passed away on June 9, 2011, in Lahore, Pakistan. Jameel Fakhri’s death left behind a grieving family and a void in the entertainment industry. He was buried in Miani Sahib Graveyard, Lahore, near the Shrine of Ilm-ud-Shaheed.
